Vulture's Lullaby
Presented at Stop Motion Plant and Scratch Night at the International Physical Theatre Festival
In Vulture’s Lullaby, artist and performer Alonso Galue channels the voice of a mythic being born from the scraps of a society in crisis. Wearing hand-crafted vulture masks made from rope and paper bags, Galue transforms into a spectral presence—prophet and scavenger—emerging from the urban skyline to deliver a haunting monologue.
With a raw, furious tone, the vulture speaks an adaptation of Derrotado (The Defeated) by Venezuelan poet Rafael Cadenas, reimagined to reflect the experiences of Venezuelan migrants in Chicago. This lament gives voice to those fleeing persecution, caught in limbo, and walking unfamiliar streets with memories of home stitched into their silence.
Blending myth, poetry, and protest, Vulture’s Lullaby confronts displacement with unflinching emotion, inviting the audience to witness a ritual of survival and mourning.
