Alonso Galue is a Venezuelan multidisciplinary artist, puppeteer, and monumental painter based in Chicago. His work explores themes of mental health, folkloric traditions, and displacement through painting, sculpture, and immersive performance. As a curator at Agitator Gallery, he promotes artist-led initiatives that challenge dominant narratives and amplify immigrant perspectives.

Galue’s socially engaged projects directly confront issues of forced displacement and border violence. In The Weeping Nation, he embodied a grieving mother searching for her lost children throughout Logan Square, navigating the streets inside a towering puppet head made of cardboard and tape. In The Wonder Mask Pilgrimage, he led a masked procession across Chicago’s cultural landmarks, transforming ancestral rituals into collective acts of memory, protest, and belonging.

His bold fusion of performance and monumental visual art has made him a rising voice in Latinx and global contemporary art. Galue has exhibited across the U.S. and Latin America, including at the Chicago Cultural Center, Elastic Arts, Co-Prosperity Sphere, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Zulia. His work draws the attention of institutions, curators, and collectors seeking deeply narrative, site-responsive pieces that engage today’s cultural and political urgencies.

He welcomes commissions and collaborative projects that bring these stories to life in new spaces—whether in public art, galleries, or collections.

SPA:
